At last we are able to share some very exciting news. Following on the success of Beaverbrook 20 and Churchill 20, work has now begun on the next luxury group holiday house here at Malherbie Group Stays. This mega size house will sleep up to 30 and have its own exclusive use spa hall with a pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room, as well as a games room and movie room.
Across the lane from Manor Farm, in the field next to the little church, things are astir. The steel framed barn that stood there is no more because after months of careful consideration and making some quite momentous decisions, work has begun on the third of our large holiday houses for groups. Say hello to Kingston, following very much in the footsteps of Beaverbrook 20 and Churchill 20, but with a bigger imprint. This is our most daring venture so far, promising another amazing place to stay for all ages, in all seasons.

Snooze Space for 30, a Games Room, Movie Room and Spa Hall
Kingston will have snooze space for up to 30 in 10 generously sized ensuite bedrooms. There will be a games room, a movie room, a huge living/entertaining space, and of course, our signature spa hall with a pool, hot tub, sauna and for this one, a steam room.
The whole will sit nicely in the landscape, timber clad, humongous and silent, waiting for guests to come and fill its rooms with happy chatter and laughter. We’re expecting more if we’re honest, we’re expecting a whole lot of ‘wows’ and shrieks of delight. It’s going to be something very, very special, even if we do say so ourselves.

Accessibility Factored In
We’ll be stepping up the accessibility on this build; everything all on one level, wider doorways to make things easier for wheelchair users, and 2-3 wet rooms. There will be a fixed hoist in the spa hall, to lower the less able bodied into the pool and hot tub, and there will be a hoist available for one of the bedrooms. We’d like to do whatever we can to make Kingston inclusive to all.
Outside there will be an enormous terrace leading onto a garden with a play area for the little ones, a BBQ lodge for use all through the year, and an all-weather football pitch. The backdrop of rolling hills, open fields and woodlands will add to the tranquillity; in the near distance are Dowlish Wake, our local village, and the lovely little town of Ilminster. Beyond the hedge the footpath entices you to wander across the fields and through the copse to The New Inn for a leisurely pub lunch.

For All Kinds of Group Stays
When work started on Kingston last Monday, it was a defining moment for us. We believe – no, we KNOW, that this will be a very special place to stay. This is a house that will speak of crisp, clean lines, of clarity and comfort. The airiness, the lightness, the incredible sense of calm, the nod to its former agricultural usage; we can achieve all of it with this meticulously planned build. It’s going to be a whopper for big family holidays and unhurried days away with friends. It will be a supersized and stylish setting for unforgettable celebrations and corporate breaks that take ‘impressive’ to a whole new level.

Why Kingston?
Good question. Why is the new addition to Malherbie Group Stays called Kingston? It’s got nothing to do with Jamaica or Kingston-upon-Thames. The inspiration is much closer to home than that! In the distance there’s a tiny hamlet called Kingstone, which is what we wanted to call our new holiday house. But that was already used widely as a name, so we just knocked the ‘E’ off the end – to Kingston. Those local connections are important to us.

Follow Our Progress
This is not going to be a quick build, not with the sheer size of Kingston and all the attention to detail. We’re looking at a completion date in 2028, which might sound a long way off, but we all know how time flies. We’ll be posting regular updates along the way so readers can follow our progress, seeing each step as Kingston takes shape. In the meantime, the anticipation is mounting.
And so it begins.
